Signed a 15-year renewable energy Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Scotiabank for solar energy from a new, to-be-constructed ~40 MW project, northeast of Cardston, Alberta.
Entered into a 40-year renewable energy PPA with Hydro-Québec for purchase of output from our Lièvre hydro portfolio in Quebec (263 MW).
2020
Joined forces with Gazifère, an Enbridge company, to develop green hydrogen in the Outaouais region and across Canada.
Added 190 MW of electricity production including 4 solar, 1 wind and 20 distributed generation facilities in Ontario
2019
Launched Evolugen, a new identity for Brookfield Renewable Canada. This reflects our business purpose of providing clean, renewable energy to communities across Canada.
Published our first Sustainability Report reflecting Evolugen’s 2018 performance.
2018
Strengthened our strategic focus on Canada with the appointment of Josée Guibord as CEO.
2016
Established our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Program to ensure we remain focused on the sustainable management of our assets.
2015
Moved our headquarters to 41 Victoria Street in Gatineau, Quebec, a new LEED-certified building. Located near Vieux-Hull’s vibrant restaurant scene, our new office supports our employees’ active lifestyle with a well-equipped gym and secure bike room.
2014
Commissioned our Kokish River Hydro Project (45 MW) on Vancouver Island, British Columbia with the ‘Namgis First Nation, our equity partners in the development of this award-winning facility.
2010
Increased our wind portfolio with the development of Gosfield (51 MW) and Comber (166 MW) wind projects in southern Ontario.
2009
Created our Canadian Systems Control Center, located in Gatineau, Quebec, allowing us to safely and efficiently manage our facilities across the country while complementing our local operations. This infrastructure enables us to continue to grow our renewable power portfolio while following the highest operating safety standards in our industry.
2007
Acquired the East Twin (2 MW) and Hystad (6 MW) hydro facilities in central eastern British Columbia.
2006
Developed the Prince Wind Project (189 MW) located in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the largest Canadian wind farm at the time and our first wind farm globally.
Acquired the Shekak (20 MW), Carmichael Falls (19 MW), Serpent (7 MW) and Cameron Falls (4 MW) hydro facilities in Ontario.
2005
Commissioned the Rapide-des-Cèdres hydro facility (9 MW) on the Lièvre River in southern Quebec.
2003
Redeveloped the 26 MW Dunford hydro facility on the Michipicoten River in northern Ontario into a 45 MW facility enabling full optimization of the hydro facilities on the river that also include Hollingsworth, McPhail and Scott.
Purchased the remaining share of the 10 MW Valerie Falls hydro facility on the Seine River in northwestern Ontario.
2002
Acquired the Aubrey Falls (162 MW), Wells (239 MW), Rayner (46 MW) and Red Rock Falls (41 MW) hydro facilities on the Mississagi River in northeastern Ontario.
Commissioned the 30 MW Pingston Creek hydro facility in southeastern British Columbia as part of a joint venture, increasing its capacity to 45 MW in 2004.
2000
Acquired partial interests in Powell (38 MW) and Lois (37 MW) hydro facilities in southwestern British Columbia, with remaining interests purchased in 2013.
1999
Established our business in Gatineau, Quebec with three facilities (255 MW) on the Lièvre River.
